BUTCOMBE BREWERY SHORT-LISTED IN INAUGURAL ‘MADE IN SOUTH WEST’ AWARDS

Butcombe, the West Country’s fastest growing brewery, recently short-listed for the 2012 IGD Food Industry Awards* has again been short-listed, this time for the inaugural ‘Made in South West’ Awards. The brewery’s entry focused on its recent achievements including:
  • a record year for beer sales despite the economic climate;
  • extending its distribution area from the company’s heartland in  the South West (Somerset, Bristol, Bath, Gloucestershire, Dorset and Wiltshire), into the Cotswolds and Herefordshire;
  • the resounding success of its launch of ‘Rare Breed’ ale in conjunction with television presenter and Cotswold farmer, Adam Henson;
  • and its remarkable success in the off-trade, where over the past  eighteen months,  it has grown branded distribution and rate of sale to a point where Butcombe is now ranked 24th in the UK and 11th in Wales and West in terms of retail sales, growing at a remarkable 153%.**

South West Business Insider editor, Neil Tague, sponsor of the awards said: “The UK economy needs to be rebalanced and manufacturing has to play a big part – it’s time the best of our manufacturers were championed for their first-class work”.

Guy Newell, Managing Director of Butcombe Brewery said: “The team here works really hard and the past year has seen the fruits of that endeavour across the business.  It’s gratifying to be recognised by our peers and competitors and we are proud to have been short-listed.  With the IGD Awards we were up against blue-chip multi-national businesses and this time we are alongside some top West Country manufacturers.”

The results will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held in Bristol on the 8th November 2012.
